How do you enable the Friends Activity Panel on Spotify?
Before we dive into how to search for people on Spotify, let’s enable your “Friends Activity” panel. Spotify features a fantastic tab in its desktop app where you can watch your friends’ playlists, listening habits, and more.
If you don’t see the panel opened by default, it might be disabled in the settings, and you must enable it. Or, it might be that the app Window size is less than 1190 pixels. Expanding the app window will make the panel appear if it’s the latter.
But if it doesn’t, try the following steps to activate the Friends Activity tab:
- Click on your account name at the top of the Spotify window or click on the arrow next to it.
- From the expanded drop-down menu, select Settings.
- From the four “Display Options” settings visible, enable the box next to “Show Friends Activity”
How do you find and add Facebook friends on Spotify?
Connecting your Facebook account to Spotify is the easiest way of importing your friends list. If you have registered for Spotify using your Facebook account, you may already have access to your friends’ activities.
However, if you did not register for Spotify using your Facebook account, you can immediately try the following steps to link it to it!
- Click on your account name at the top of the Spotify window or click on the arrow next to it.
- Select settings from the new list.
- Scroll down until you see the “Facebook” section, and click the blue “Connect To Facebook” icon.
- Type in your correct email and password in the pop-up window that appears.
- Spotify will ask for generic permissions to your Facebook account; check the ones you want to keep and click OK.
Once your Facebook account is linked to your Spotify account, you can add friends easily. Users from your friend list will automatically appear in your Friends Activity Panel. But if they don’t click “Find Friends” in the Friends Activity tab, you will see a list of your Facebook peers.
Follow as many Spotify accounts and friends as possible to enjoy varying music tastes on your timeline!
How to Find Friends Without Facebook?
As fun as it is to listen to your friends’ music on Facebook friends, it is not always doable. Either because you do not want to link your Facebook account to your Spotify account or because you want to add friends who aren’t using Spotify through Facebook.
There are a couple of ways to go about it. The rookie way is to put your friend’s name in the search bar on Spotify and scan through for a similar face. But if your friend’s name isn’t unique, you could be looking at dozens of profiles with the same name. And that too if your friends are using Spotify under the same name. So, as helpful as it may have sounded, it is almost useless if your friend has a common name.
The other more reliable way of adding friends without Facebook is searching for their profile. Now, before you get confused about finding it, here’s how to find and share my profile on Spotify:
- Select the user from the top of the screen and click on Profile.
- Click on the three-dots icon under the profile picture.
- Select “Copy Profile Link” after clicking “Share.”
- Send the copied profile link to a friend through text message or email.
How to Remove Friends on Spotify?
Adding many friends allows you to diversify your listening habits on Spotify, but not always. Some followed friends may not follow a similar music taste or may have abandoned their Spotify account. This is why you’ve got to remove such accounts to open up your Friends Activity panel to the music you’d like to hear.
Removing or unfollowing friends is fairly simple. And you don’t need to delete your Spotify account for that.
To remove a friend from Spotify:
- Find the friend you want to remove from the search option or the Spotify friends list and open their profile.
- Under their profile picture, click the button highlighted as “Following.”
The icon will now change to “Follow,” and voila! You’ve successfully unfriended your friend on Spotify!
