How to Clean a Vape Pod Device: Essential Maintenance Tips

Pod devices are an easy-to-use and convenient alternative to traditional cigarettes. They come in a variety of flavors, provide different nicotine strengths, and can be stored anywhere. If you want to ensure the longevity and performance of your vape pod device, it’s essential to know how to clean it properly.

Like any other electronic device, pods and batteries must be properly maintained. The following tips will help you keep your pod device in good working condition for as long as possible.

Clean the Coils

You might not realize how dirty a pod can get if you’re a new vaper. While pods are easy to use and very convenient, they require maintenance to keep the coils clean and ensure your vaping experience is as good as possible. Regular cleaning and care will help prolong your pods’ life, saving you a lot in the long run.

Pods are the most popular way to start vaping because they are super simple and offer an excellent introduction to the world of vaping. They’re also very affordable and convenient and can be a great way to kick the smoking habit. However, the costs of a new pod and the e-liquid to refill it can add up quickly. A replacement coil pod is the best choice if you’re looking for a more sustainable and inexpensive option.

To clean your vape pod, you’ll need to remove the cartridge and empty any e-liquid left inside it. Next, pour some hot water into the pod. Then, you can start swishing it around, ensuring you’re getting rid of any residue e-liquid. Once you’re done, rinse the pod and dry it with a paper towel.

To prevent issues, don’t overfill your pods; it can cause leaks and quick coil damage. Avoid chain vaping, which can lead to gunk buildup and faster coil burnout. Also, regularly wipe the coil and tank with alcohol-soaked cotton swabs, significantly when changing flavors.

It’s also a good idea to wipe down the connection between the battery and the pod mod to ensure it’s dirt-free. You can do this by taking a paper towel and wiping the whole surface area of it.

Replace the Cartridges

While the maintenance required for pod devices is lower than that of a vape mod, some things still need to be done periodically. One of the most important is replacing your pod cartridges occasionally. If you don’t replace the pods regularly, they will quickly become stale and begin to give weak hits. Changing your pods after three to five days is recommended, depending on your usage and vaping habits.

The most common types of pod systems are open pods and closed pods. Open pod systems allow you to refill e-liquid into the cartridge. On the other hand, closed pods come pre-filled with a specific e-liquid and are discarded once they’re empty. Closed pods are an excellent choice for beginners because they’re easy to use and require no knowledge of atomizers, coils, or wicks.

Whenever you’re ready to replace your pod, it’s best to drain the old liquid and then clean the cartridge. This will help you avoid overfilling it and pushing the excess e-liquid into your device’s atomizer coil assembly. To do this, remove the pod and hold it upside down over a piece of paper or something similar. Then, blow firmly through the top of the pod. This will force the excess e-liquid out of the airflow chimney, again allowing for normal airflow.

Periodically clean the pod-device connector by gently swabbing the metal contacts and any gunked-up areas with a cotton swab or similar tool. Accidental overfilling of your pod, pushing e-liquid into the device’s coil assembly, can disrupt the puff sensor’s functionality.

The good news is that this may be fixable. If you have little desiccant packets that sometimes include bottled vitamins or freeze-dried foods, seal your device in a zip-top bag for a day or two. This will absorb any ambient moisture and may revive your device.

Clean the Battery

A pod device’s battery can also become gunky over time. This residue prevents the coil’s wick from vaporizing the e-liquid effectively, which can lead to weak hits and a sour flavor. Vapers often refer to this buildup as “coil gunk.” Cleaning the battery regularly can help keep your vaping experience clean and enjoyable.

To clean the battery on a pod mod, start by taking apart the device. Remove the pod, and if it has a removable coil, remove that as well. Next, fill a bowl with very hot but not boiling water. Submerge the pod and coil in the water and swish them to provide some agitation. Allow the items to soak in the water for a few minutes, and then use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to clean the connections on both the battery and the cartridge. Be sure to dry the connections thoroughly before using the device again.

Pod device batteries can sometimes produce a “burnt” flavor, even with plenty of e-liquid left inside. In most cases, this burnt flavor is caused by a layer of gunk that builds up on the coil. The gunk can prevent the wick from absorbing the e-liquid effectively, which will cause the device to heat up and burn the e-liquid in the process. To prevent this from happening, make sure that you regularly clean your vape pod and coil.

If you’ve been using a particular flavor for a long time, it might be worth trying a different one to see if that eliminates the burnt taste. Alternatively, you can try a new type of liquid. However, you should always clean the pod and coil after every use before switching flavors.

Pod devices use higher air pressure than cigarettes, making overheating familiar. Overheating triggers temperature protection, reducing vapor output. Prevent this by cleaning the device and pod before flavor changes and using proper puffing pressure.

Clean the Connections

Pods may have a more straightforward design than tank kits, but they still need a little maintenance. Especially if you’ve been using the same pod mod for a while, it might be time to clean it to make it feel like new again.

Start by examining the metal contacts inside and on your device’s bottom (if it has one). It could be an easy fix if they look dirty: dip a cotton swab in some isopropyl alcohol and wipe each contact point. Doing this regularly will help to keep the contacts clear and ensure a good connection with your charger.

Also, look at the recessed section in the center of the pod. If there’s excess e-liquid in this area, it could eventually cause your pod to leak. Take a paper towel or kitchen roll and soak the extra liquid to prevent damage.

Finally, if you’ve noticed a drop in vapor production and your device has been left damp for a long time, it may be time to try some of those desiccant packets often found in bottled vitamins and freeze-dried foods. However, before taking this step, consider regular cleaning as a preventive measure. Follow these steps to learn how to clean a vape pod device effectively. Seal the device in a bag with a couple of these packets for a day or two, and you’ll hopefully be able to revive it again.
